European Youth Media Days

I have just arrived back from the European Youth Media Days Conference, which was held at the European Parliament in Brussels. The participants were over 270 young journalists from every EU country, they had come together to discuss and create European media which will shape the future. I met some extremely talented people which ranged from media students to professional journalists which really inspired me. The European Parliament is an amazing testament to democracy, as representatives of nation states gather to work towards forming an international united identity, at this stage within the continent of Europe.

The variety of languages being spoken was a unique experience, and I listened to how talented the interpreters are for myself. For me this made me think of the benefits of using one language, though there are many barriers to overcome before we are ready for this step. Different topics were discussed within media and politics, and a lot of thought was given to how young journalists can bring to light the pressing issues Europeans face using new broadcasting technologies. This essentially applies to anyone with a story and the Internet, which is the great advantage of the times we live in.

There were many workshops to choose from, I was lucky enough to be apart of europocket.tv, where we created videos intended for Webtv about topics based on our visit to the European Parliament. I’ll post the results of this soon, also with some more reflections.

~PEACE~
